A walk from "Zman Midbar" into the desert
Near "Zman Midbar" Center are ancient camel trails taking us into the desert. Ancient rock drawings thousands of years old tell us the story of this region. Through these drawings we are exposed to the era of our patriarch Abraham, to the different tribes and sects that wandered in and settled this desert, and to our modern era and the Bedouin tribes who make this desert their home.
During this journey we meet different kinds of desert animals and other living creatures. We get to know some desert flora and learn how to make use of them for our benefit. The animals we are most likely to meet, early in the morning or at dusk, include desert hyraxes, deer, mountain goats, desert foxes, hyenas, hares and porcupines.
Sometimes one can even see snakes and scorpions, lizards and rodents. Quite often, when we look up to the sky, we may observe the flight of desert eagles, vultures and falcons, as well as flocks of migrating birds on their way to and from Africa.
